Typically you’re surrounded by beautiful music everywhere you go during the Christmas season, from the stores to the streets. However, it’s not so often that a cop is the one who’s doing the singing.

On a wintery day in Portland, Maine, locals were left amazed when Officer Jeremy Turner randomly began performing “Oh Holy Night” while patrolling a public area. His performance was so chilling in fact, that it’s given the internet goosebumps too.

‘Tis the season for angelic voices, and this police officer has one you don’t want to miss.

Police officers are there to serve and protect their communities. Apparently, some like to entertain them as well.

Officer Turner was on duty in the Old Port, when he received a dare from his partner to sing a Christmas carol. And so he did.

The officer surprised everyone by belting out the classic “Oh Holy Night” for all to enjoy. He had a voice so breathtaking it caused a crowd to form at Tommy’s Park.

Turner explained to WGME-TV:

“I don’t think he thought that I’d actually do it, so we went there and I went for it, and people just started gathering around, and so I kept going.”

“Oh Holy Night” is a favorite in many households during the holidays, including Turner’s.

He told the news station that it was a reason he chose it for his impromptu performance.

“It’s one of my parents’ favorite Christmas songs, I’ve been singing it for years, and it’s just been kind of my go to and first one that came to mind.”

Adding to the beauty of things, he stood in a blanket of snow with twinkling lights hanging in the background.

Turner’s employed with the Portland Police Department, however, he also has a musical history as well.

During an interview with WCSH 6, he said:

“I’ve been singing since I was 6-years-old, and I went to the University of Southern Maine and have a degree in music performance.”

Fortunately, the officer’s heavenly rendition was caught on film and shared with the world. It quickly went viral and left people awestruck.

Even Portland Police Chief, Michael Sauschuck, was thrilled about the video’s positive feedback, sharing that:

“It humanizes law enforcement officers at a completely different level.”

The public may have been surprised by the officer’s talent – but according to Sauschuck, Turner’s joyous spirit is consistent.

He told WCSH 6:

“That’s who Jeremy Turner is. That’s the real deal. He’s always smiling, he’s always laughing.”

Sometimes all it takes is a small gesture to brighten a person’s day – and Officer Turner did just that when he sang in the middle of the park.

Yet, kindness is what he likes to practice on a regular basis.

He shared with WGME-TV:

“Being a police officer you never know what kind of day you’re going to have but it’s definitely a rewarding experience when you go out there and see what you can do to help someone and try and make their day better.”

There’s nothing more soothing than listening to a holiday classic. But when it’s a kindhearted police officer singing it, things go to another level.
